Do splashbacks have to be made from toughened glass?

If a glass splashback is purely decorative, then it doesn’t necessarily need to be made from toughened glass, as standard float glass will look similar. The issue is that it will not be as strong, and therefore, more susceptible to cracking and breaking.

As a glass splashback installed in a kitchen must be completely practical as well as an aesthetically pleasing piece of décor, all of ours are made with 6mm toughened glass. This means they are several times more resilient against impacts and also heat-resistant.

This last factor is one of the most important when it comes to glass splashbacks for kitchens, as they not only need to be tough enough to endure daily wear and tear, but they also must be able to withstand high temperatures and moisture from various cooking and cleaning activities.

Can kitchen splashbacks be customised with cut-outs?

Our standard kitchen glass splashbacks are 6mm thick and come in various sizes from 60cm to 100cm as standard, which should be suitable for most spaces.

However, not all kitchens have the same wall dimensions, so if you find that none of the listed measurements fit where you want to place your kitchen splashback design, it’s best to contact us to request a quote for a fully bespoke order.

While this may not always be possible, we will do our best to find a solution that meets your requirements – for example, amending the glass splashback with custom cut-outs or notches as necessary to work around fittings, sockets, cooker hoods, and cabinets.

How do you attach a glass splashback to the wall?

Often, the preferred method for attaching a glass kitchen splashback to the wall is to use a silicone-based adhesive to glue it in place. This allows you to maintain the sleek appearance of the glass by bonding it directly to the wall instead of using visible screws.

If you would prefer to mount your glass splashback by screwing it securely into the wall, you can choose to have drilled holes in the corners to allow this. However, you must remember to request this extra step when ordering, as the glass cannot be altered after it has already been toughened.

You can purchase either splashback adhesive or splashback screws from our website alongside your toughened glass splashback design so you’ll have everything you need to mount it in your kitchen when your order arrives.

How durable are toughened glass splashbacks?

When you choose a toughened glass splashback for your kitchen, you're investing in longevity and durability. Toughened glass is known for its superior strength and resilience. This isn't by accident; through a process of heat treatment, the glass is fortified, enhancing its ability to withstand heat, scratches, and impacts. This means that behind the beauty of our splashbacks lies a product capable of enduring the hustle and bustle of kitchen life.

Moreover, toughened glass is celebrated for its non-porous nature, making it a breeze to clean and maintain. While it's true that no glass product is indestructible, the combination of proper installation and care ensures that your glass splashback will stand the test of time, providing both functionality and aesthetic appeal to your kitchen.

Are glass splashbacks safe behind a heat source?

The kitchen is a place of warmth and nourishment but also requires a design that prioritizes safety, especially around heat sources such as ovens and hobs. Toughened glass splashbacks excel in this aspect, offering peace of mind for those who love to cook. Suitable for use behind a heat source, these splashbacks are designed to resist high temperatures without compromising on safety or style. This makes them an ideal addition to any kitchen, ensuring that your space is safe for you and your loved ones.

Can glass splashbacks be installed on top of existing splashbacks or tiles?

Thinking of giving your kitchen a facelift without extensive renovations? A glass splashback offers a versatile solution that can be easily installed onto existing tiles or splashbacks, breathing new life into your space with minimal effort. This flexibility means that you can achieve a significant transformation in your kitchen's appearance without the need for a complete overhaul.

What is the tolerance level for glass splashbacks?

Installing a glass splashback involves a level of precision to ensure a perfect fit, typically within a 1-2mm tolerance. This precision accounts for wall irregularities and ensures a snug fit, essential for the overall look and performance of the splashback.
